Why a Website?

This website was initially set up in August, 2006, without a lot of thought about what it should be, and more importantly, why it should be.  The initial answer to the question, “You have a website…why?” was: we set it up because we could.  We had recently purchased a new Mac which included the software.  The cost for the site was minimal.  So it was put together by my wife, Mary, as one of the last projects of the summer.  (Since Apple’s iWeb servers are now gone, we continue still, with a new server.)

Since the early site development, I have been thinking about the “why” question. A broad answer is easy and it is this: early in my art making life, I figured out that I have only one major responsibility regarding the art.  That is, to get it as “right” as I can.  As I see it, there are two secondary responsibilities as well: I should make the work physically accessible as best I can (more on this later) and I should try to help people to understand the work when opportunities present themselves.  This website seems like that sort of opportunity.

I expect that most of the time people will access this site because they have run into the pots somewhere, or, perhaps, the name has come up and people are curious.
